Work in Progress

Are you a work in progress? I know I am. I’m definitely not the person I was 10 years ago and I’m not who I want to be in 10 years.

We often think of the term “work in progress” and apply it to a project that’s not complete. In sports, we use it to refer to a young athlete still learning, still growing in their sport. But the truth is we’re all a “work in progress” no matter how far we’ve come from our past or how much more we hope to accomplish. We can be at different stages of our lives and need work in different areas. But we’re not perfect. Only Jesus was perfection. We’re not a finished product.

Paul reminds us in Philippians 1:6 – “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

It’s easy sometimes to get frustrated with where we are, to get caught up in the difficulties of daily life and become discouraged or lose hope because perhaps we’re struggling with an issue or we haven’t come as far as we had hoped so we allow disappointment to set in. But it’s important to remember God is not finished with us yet. Each of us is a work in progress. God’s still working in us. If we join Him wholeheartedly in that process, we’ll continue to make progress. – Rob Maaddi
