Winning Humbly
It’s easy in sports and in life to let success get to our heads and to allow our accomplishments to inflate our ego and make us feel more important, make us feel bigger than life, even make us feel better than others.
But the Bible warns us about being about being too prideful and conceited. Jesus says in Luke 4:11: “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
In God’s eyes, we’re all equal whether we’re winners or losers, successful or failures on the field, in the board room, in the class classroom, the business office, wherever.
God cares most about our hearts, how we treat others, how we love and forgive others. Our sinful human nature gives us a greater sense of self-importance when we have success but we must guard against praising ourselves and instead give all the glory to the One who created us and blessed us.
