Our guest this week Is Alabama star edge rusher Will Anderson. He’s very likely to be the first defensive player selected in the upcoming NFL Draft. In Rob Maaddi’s mock NFL draft, he has him going to Arizona with the third pick, maybe as high as the second pick, and to Houston. When asked how he feels about the position that he’ll be drafted, Will didn’t seem to be bothered by it.
“I gave that up a long time ago, I'm not gonna lie. Like when free agency started in the trades and everything started I just said I'm leaving it up to God to put it in his hands and just wait for that phone call next week.”
Anderson could be the first non-Quarterback to be taken in the draft. That would likely be a special moment for him.
“Yeah, I mean it is (something special), but I mean at the end of the day, like I said, it's all in God’s hands, you know what I'm saying. You can't like be like, “Well, this is gonna happen, whenever my name gets called”, that's when I'm going to be ready to go get back to work and be with the team and be happy.
Rob asked Will what off-the-field presence he brings to an NFL team. Anderson believes he brings a lot.
“Yeah, for me, I just bring a complete person. I hold myself to a very high standard and a high expectation and never to, you know, embarrass myself or my family. So I always treat people with respect, you know, whatever culture that I get, I'm going to do my best to uphold that culture, hold myself accountable to others around me, but also treat everybody in the facility with respect.”
Anderson’s faith has been a big part of who he is, from his early family upbringing to now.
“So just growing up my family, I think that's one of the biggest things that you know just being in a Christian household, my parents, we always went to church and everything like that and just being in all these tough times, especially being in Alabama. He's never left me like all my bad times, my good times.”
