Where Credit is Due
I want to talk about giving credit where credit is due.
Covering the Super Bowl and seeing the Kansas City Chiefs rally for a win over the San Francisco 49ers and Patrick Mahomes being named Super Bowl MVP, there was a lot of debate on Twitter because that’s where people go to complain that Damien Williams should’ve been the MVP. Mahomes had thrown two picks on two straight drives and then led the Chiefs from a 20-10 deficit to three straight touchdowns. Mahomes finished with two passing TDs, one rushing. Williams had 104 yards, including a 38-yard TD run that sealed it, and caught a 5-yard TD pass.
I don’t why there was debate. The difference in that game was Mahomes. The Chiefs won because they had an elite quarterback who carried his team in crunch time and the 49ers didn’t. I don’t care that he threw two picks, his first ever in the playoffs. When it mattered most, Mahomes delivered.
Mahomes deserved to be the MVP of that game because that’s where credit is due.
In our lives, how often do we give credit to the wrong person just like those complaining on Twitter after the game. And more importantly, how often do we take credit for what we don’t deserve.
Yes, when we put in the work, we get the results, the awards, the accomplishments, the accolades, whatever. We feel good about ourselves and people praise us and all of that is great but do we give credit where it’s due or do we feel like we deserve all the glory for what we accomplished.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt gave the glory to God after his team’s big victory. Romans 11:36 says: “For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen”
GOD is the source of everything. He gave us everything we have, the talents, the skills, the opportunity. HE is all-powerful. He sustains and rules the world. All credit is due to HIM.
