The Secret of Bryce Hall's Peace? The Character of God.

During times of uncertainty, Bryce Hall has to trust that God will not fail him.

Bryce Hall, cornerback for the New York Jets, knows the secret of contentment as a believer. It's understanding the character of God and how that applies to the circumstances of your life.

As a professional athlete with the New York Jets, Bryce has to make hard choices in order to keep a competitive edge. But that competition is not primarily with others, it is with himself. Here's some of what he told Rob Maaddi in this week's episode "Friendship Bonds".

“I think the mindset I've tried to take is you're your own biggest competitor and you know, I think I've heard, Dion (Sander) say it before. He's like, ‘Your biggest competitor, isn't with the guys that come to work. It's the part of you that has to wake up each morning and put in the work.’ It's the part of you that doesn't want to watch film, but you know, you gotta watch film. It's the part of you that's saying ‘I wanna eat this, eat that’, and you know you gotta take care of your body.”

“And so I think for me how I approach things is there's (only) so many things I can control and what I can't control, and I really try not to worry about what everybody else is doing but just try to be the best me. I feel like. If I do that, everything is going to take care of itself.”

When Bryce was playing college ball, he had the opportunity to make the jump to the NFL, but after praying about it, he believed the Lord wanted him to stay in college for his senior year. But during that senior year, he broke his ankle. It was a setback, but Bryce believed God has something better for him.

“One thing that really grounded me is, I knew God's character was he works all things together for the good. And so I didn't understand it in the moment. I didn't understand why when I came back I got hurt but I just had trust and faith that he was going to change the situation and make a great story out of it and make it something positive.”

“And so I didn't understand, but I just knew that about God and so I really learned, like in those moments of really trying times, you have to rely on God's character. And that comes from that relationship, that history that you have.”
