Shaun Alexander was the 2005 NFL MVP with the Seattle Seahawks and offensive player of the year. He ran for 27 touchdowns and had 28 total touchdowns to help Seattle reach the Super Bowl that season. He has almost ten thousand yards in his career and had exactly 100 Rushing touchdowns in nine seasons.
Shaun believes that a follower of Jesus needs to take his relationship with Christ seriously. So when Rob Maaddi asked Alexander about what being a disciple of Jesus means to him, this is what Shaun said:
“I was told by this by my discipler, my mentors, they told me a true disciple is a follower of Jesus, a believer of Jesus, a lover of Jesus, a worker of Jesus, and a laborer of Jesus. And when you do those things you just end up having an impact on real people's lives.”
More than just being religious or having God as a reference point in his life, Shaun is striving to live a life that revolves around Jesus. This is because he believes that Jesus is what the Bible says about Him: He is God and worthy of praise.
“I fully believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. I truly follow him with everything that I'm doing. I am always asking questions like, ‘Lord, is this you, or is this just a piece of pizza? Which one is it?’ I'm truly a worshipper of Jesus.”
A true disciple of Jesus is more than just someone who talks about God. They actually put their faith into practice.
“I actually pray and help people that are afflicted and affliction and can come in so many different ways. Sometimes it’s just a conversation and sometimes it’s money out of your pocket and sometimes it's just a meal. And sometimes I just sit with somebody.”
“But I believe that true disciples, they help share the gospel. They help people that are sick and they help people that are afflicted.”
