Second Chances

Everyone needs a second chance at some point. Sometimes a third chance. Even a fourth. And maybe more. We’re quick to want a second chance when we mess up. We ask for it after we fail. We seek it when we need redemption.

But how often are we willing to give someone else a second chance? Or a third chance and so on.

Some of us Christians are really good at seeking forgiveness time and time again, knowing that God’s grace is boundless but when we are asked to forgive, when we are asked to give a second chance to someone, that’s when our hypocrisy shows up.

I love what Jesus says in Matthew 18 when Peter asks him, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times? And Jesus answered, “I tell you, not 7 times, but 77 times.

Peter wanted to do better than the religious leaders at that time. He wanted to show them up. They only forgave someone up to three times. So Peter thought, he’s say seven times.'” But Jesus wants us to forgive our brothers and sisters as often as they need to be forgiven.

In our latest episode, former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf talks about overcoming addiction and turning his life around after serving time in prison.
