Sam Acho is on a Mission for Justice

Sam works with International Justice Mission to help stop human trafficking.

Sam Acho states on his Twitter feed: “I am loved by God, the creator of the universe, the First and the Last. If everything else goes away, He is enough.” That driving influence in Sam’s life is what allows him to go about his life with eternal passion. This week he spoke to our own Rob Maaddi.

Sam was successful as an NFL linebacker, but that was merely a platform the Lord gave him to do the work that he’s doing now. One of those platforms is the work he is doing with International Justice Mission (IJM).

“I think one of the coolest things about playing the NFL is that I get a chance to be a part of organizations like International Justice Mission. Back in 2018 when I was still playing, I joined this thing called Team Freedom. I got a chance to actually go to the headquarters of IJM and see the work that's being done and meet the heroes who are behind the scenes making things happen.”

International Justice Mission exists to end all forms of slavery in our lifetime. Sam spoke about the scope of the work that IJM does.

”For those who don't know IJM is the largest anti-human trafficking organization in the world. There are 40 million people who are trafficked. And that's huge. Out of that 40 million, two million are children. So that's one of the organizations I care a ton about.”

Acho wisely points out that the Scripture tells us that as believers we need to seek God’s priorities first in our lives, and one of those priorities has to be seeking justice for those who cannot seek it for themselves.

“The gospel is important, right? Like making disciples is important, but like Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness”. It's not just about sitting and saying “OK, I'm gonna be OK.” So you gotta seek. The Bible talks about “seek justice, love mercy, walk humbly with God”, Micah 6:8. So it's like we have to seek out justice.”

“You can't just sit idly by and say, “Well, my life is pretty good, and I'll be OK.” Like we actually have to use our platform.
