Patrick Mahomes Knows Christianity is a Process

He knows the Lord is faithful, even when we as believers are not.

Patrick Mahomes is a highly accomplished professional quarterback, widely regarded as one of the brightest stars in the sport. Born on September 17, 1995, in Tyler, Texas, he burst into the limelight during his tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL). Mahomes' athletic prowess and remarkable skillset have earned him numerous accolades, including a Super Bowl MVP award and league MVP honors.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Mahomes has been open about his Christian faith, which plays a significant role in his life. He often attributes his success and resilience on the field to his faith, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong spiritual foundation amidst the challenges and pressures of his profession. Mahomes' commitment to his faith and his positive impact on and off the field have endeared him to fans and inspired many across the globe. He recently chatted with our own Rob Maaddi, and one of the first things they discussed was legacy. Rob asked Mahomes how much that enters into his thinking.

“Yeah, I think everybody thinks about legacy and how they're remembered, but I think you have to think about that at the same time value and every day and how you how you can become better, how you can. Really maximize every single day and then whenever your career is done, you have no regrets. And I think that's what I've always preached is it's not about success of that day. It's about having no regrets at the end of your career.”

In any conversation about the impact of the Chiefs, the conversation has to quickly turn to their head coach Andy Reid, who has had a significant impact on Patrick personally.

“He's meant the world to me. I mean he's just the best. He's the best coach, obviously, one of the best coaches of all time and but he's one of the best people of all time and he's learned how to get the most out of me every day. He doesn't let me be satisfied with where I'm at. He teaches me a ton. Not only about how to be a leader and how to be a great dad and how to be a great husband.”

Patrick’s relationship with the Lord, like every believer, can be identified as ups and downs that help us become more like Christ.  It’s a process, a process that he has seen evidence of over his career.

“It's like anyone's walk with the Lord in their faith; there have been highs and there have been lows. I think I've learned a ton over these last few years, especially about my relationship with Him. I was baptized when I was 14 years old, and I would say I kind of distanced myself over those next few years. But I've been able to kind of come back and really develop this relationship that's been able to let me go out there and play free and not worry about the moment of the success and or the failure.

So that's been my walk and I'll continue to walk and do whatever I can to strengthen my relationship with Him.”
