Justin Simmons is one of the premier safeties in the NFL. He is a sixth-year player who is just the fifth safety in Broncos' history to be named a Pro Bowler (2020) and an All-Pro (second-team, 2019) while with the team. Justin played 81 games (71 starts) during his first six seasons with Denver. Also, Justin was chosen as the Bronco's nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2019 and '20 while becoming the first three-time winner of the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award for (2017, '19-20) as voted on by the team's local media.
He has done a lot for the Broncos, but Justin also has done a lot off the field in his volunteer work and proclaiming his faith in Christ. In a recent discussion with Rob Maaddi, Justin reflected on the challenges of raising a family in the world we live in.
“You know, I think it's just such a tough time I feel like we're living through right now. I just think about raising a daughter in today's world (or kids in general), and all these different things are happening in our country. Again, I just sit there and I think to myself at times, I just don't know how I would be able to survive or make it day to day without my relationship with Jesus."
For Simmons, in times of uncertainty, Jesus provides stability, a stability that the world really knows nothing of.
“Having that comfort of knowing I don't know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow and it kind of helps me puts me at ease, knowing I have that to lean on and to rely on.”
Justin is a leader on the field, but most importantly he wants to be a leader for Christ in his home and other spheres of life.
“It (Jesus’s comfort) helps me to be a better leader in our household, right? As a husband, as a father, as a brother, as a son, I really don't know how I would be able to function without that and I'm just so thankful for the opportunities that I have with the platform that he's given me to be able to spread his love and his word, to so many others.”
“(I’m) just really thankful for that, and I always want to be mindful of that and to use my platform to do just that; to elevate the gospel and Jesus’ words.”
