Frank Reich Naturally Brings Faith into Conversations

If Jesus is an important part of our lives, then at some point it has to come up in conversation.

By Faith on the Field Staff, March 30, 2023

Frank Reich played thirteen seasons in the NFL with Buffalo, Carolina and the New York Jets, the Detroit Lions. Hewas a backup quarterback most of his career, and he did lead the biggest comeback in NFL history in a playoff win for the Buffalo Bills, that is until the Vikings and Kirk Cousins had a bigger comeback last season against the Colts.

Frank is all about football, but greater than that he is all about faith. His personal relationship with Jesus Christ is what guides his choices and it is what defines him. As a Christian, Frank takes the opportunities that are often handed to him to talk about his faith, especially with co-workers and teammates. He shared the details of this with Rob Maaddi.

“Those are life conversations. There's a passage in first, Peter 3:15 that says always be prepared to tell others for the hope that you have in Christ Jesus. And then the end of that verse says when they ask. So this game is about relationships with players, coaches with everybody. My experience is if we're going to develop a deep friendship that's real, eventually you’re going to talk about everything that's important to you.”

When it comes to sharing his faith, Reich believes it should be a natural part of the relationship process, and that as believers we should be interacting with others in faith-based conversations naturally.

“I want to hear what's important to you. You want to hear what's important to me as you develop a relationship. And so those things don't have to be forced. They kind of just flow out of natural friendships, relationships. That's kind of the way I approach it.”
