Anthony Munoz Has Been a Man of Faith for 44 Years

And he has no regrets for that faith decision he made 44 years ago.

By Faith on the Field Staff, February 16, 2021

Anthony Munoz was the third overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1980 draft. He quickly became one of the best in his position at left tackle in his 13 seasons in the NFL. He was an 11-time Pro Bowl pic, a nine-time All Pro, and he was a first-ballot hall-of-famer.

Munoz is someone who has been to the top of his game and played in the biggest game of all time, the Superbowl.  When he sat down with our own Rob Maaddi, he was able to give some advice to other guys about to do the same thing.

“So, what I would tell these guys is to take it in and really enjoy the experience. I think that's what I was able to do the second time in my 10th year, in the league compared to my second year in the league. And I think these guys will. The confidence these guys have and the confidence in themselves and each other, I think they will. But that's the first thing I would tell him is just take it in and enjoy the whole experience.

But bigger than any big game is the knowledge of where you are going after you die, to know that you are going to heaven because of the trust you have placed in Christ to forgive you of your sins.  That faith in Christ is something that Munoz embraced early in his college years.

“I came to faith my sophomore year in college. In the moving into the pros we knew that there'd be a lot of distractions. But we had to stay strong and it, and it happened that way 44 years coming up in October. So I'm thankful that we've been able to really keep that as our foundation.

My faith is everything for me in my in my life, college, my 13-years playing in the NFL. Now that I've been retired from the NFL it continues to be the most important thing in my life.”
