Andrew Whitworth Hopes People Knows He Cares

The Former NFL'er Believes in Seeing the Best in People.

By Faith on the Field Staff, December 4, 2022

Andrew James Whitworth played in the NFL for 16 seasons. During his 11 seasons with the Bengals, Whitworth was named to three Pro Bowls and one first-team All-Pro. Whitworth spent his last five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, where he extended his Pro Bowl selections to four and his first-team All-Pro honors to two. He also have a Superbowl ring to his credit. Noted for the longevity of his career, he retired as the oldest tackle in NFL history and was the oldest offensive lineman to win a Super Bowl.

Rob Maaddi recently asked Whitworth about his faith, and how that has impacted how he processes life.

“I think it's really about perspective. You think about life and what you're trying to get out of it. I know I've been blessed to be where I am and that I don't deserve, or have some particular reason that I'm important enough to have any of these things.”

For Whitworth, he wants people to know that he cares about them, regardless of their walk in life.

“I wanted to make sure people know that they might know me as a football player. They might know me as a great one. They might be mad (for) being on the wrong team. Whatever it is that they know me by, that the most important thing they know is that I care about 'em and I love him 'em.”

Being able to see people for who they are and not stereotyping is what Whitworth is striving for.

“I don't care where you're from, what your walk of life is like, what color of skin you have, your zip code, anything about you. The only thing I care about is that you, you know, hopefully realize I care about you and I want to help you get to where it is you're trying to get to.”
