AJ Klein Put His Hope in What Can’t Be Seen

Even though you cannot see God, there is evidence all you around.

Making adjustments, rolling with the punches, and getting ready week in and week out is par for the course for your average professional athlete. And the same could be said for Buffalo Bills linebacker AJ Klein.

In March of 2020, Buffalo signed Klein to a three-year, multi-million dollar contract, which would have him playing on a team expected to do great things.  Last year Buffalo made it to the AFC Championship, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs.

But though players like Klein have high hopes for their team, AJ has greater hope in his relationship with the Lord. In our recent Faith on the Field episode “Be Transformed”, our own Rob Maaddi asked Klein about a verse like 1 Peter 1:8, and what it means to him.  Klein said it’s about bringing faith into all the circumstances of life.

“For me it’s about having faith in all circumstances. Days that might not be going the best circumstances that come up in life. You have the old ‘Why me?’, you’ve always got to have faith and knowing that God has a plan.”

But faith means that believers are trusting in something that cannot be seen, that’s why it’s called ‘faith’. Klein knows it takes faith to believe in Jesus, and that you can see evidence of your faith all around you.

“We can't see Jesus Christ. We can't see our God, but I believe that we can see our God is everywhere around us, for instance, in the people that we talk to, in the nature we see outside. It’s relationships, it's family. It's all around us.”

“So, for me, even though, I don't see Jesus Christ, it’s like doubting Thomas, even though I can’t see the marks in his hands, I believe, and I put my faith in him regardless, so that that's for me has always been a true Testament of my belief system.”
